Zero-tolerance containment
Industrial secondary containment structures are designed to hold hazardous chemicals if primary vessels fail. A crack in a containment bund allows direct environmental release — a regulatory failure with significant liability implications. Conventional concrete requires regular crack inspection and epoxy injection as a maintenance cycle. Any missed inspection window creates compliance risk.
Continuous self-management
GX Concrete Series in containment slab and wall applications is designed to address micro-cracks autonomously as they form — before they reach the crack width threshold where containment integrity is compromised. This is not a replacement for inspection; it is a design feature that targets extending the inspection interval and reducing the likelihood of finding opened cracks at the time of inspection.
Secondary Containment Bunds
Chemical processing plant secondary containment floors and walls. GX-50 recommended for highly aggressive chemical environments — highest SCM replacement level provides the most chemically resistant binder matrix alongside the healing capability.
Manufacturing Floors
Heavy-duty industrial floor slabs subject to forklift, vehicle, and point loads. GX-30 or GX-40 in ground-supported or pile-supported floor slabs — autonomous sealing of construction joint cracks and stress-concentration cracks at column-to-slab intersections.
Water Treatment Structures
Treatment tanks, clarifiers, and filtration structure walls — permanently wet conditions provide continuous moisture for repeated GX activation. Particularly applicable to activated sludge tanks and chemical dosing areas.
Process Water Channels
Concrete-lined process channels, sumps, and trenches. GXM-R repair mortar for joint and crack maintenance — low-carbon formulation suitable for sustainability reporting in industrial facility ESG frameworks.
Chemical processing facility — secondary containment bund replacement, 1,400 m²
A chemical processing facility upgrading secondary containment structures as part of a site-wide environmental compliance programme. The existing bund slabs had exceeded the regulatory maximum crack width of 0.15 mm at two process vessel stations and required replacement. GX-50 Concrete Series was specified for the replacement bund floor and wall areas on three process vessels — 1,400 m² total — on the basis that the highest SCM replacement level provides the most chemically resistant binder matrix and the greatest clinker reduction. The specification required a performance-based section with defined target crack width (designed to meet ≤ 0.10 mm under service loading), 12-month crack inspection intervals, and documentation of the autonomous sealing capability for the client's EHS compliance file. The GX-50 dry additive was batched into the host concrete mix at the batch plant supplying the site.
